I've tried leaving ACPI on, and one hardrive I'm trying actually had winxp installed and working perfectly up until my computer wouldn't boot. Install hangs at 34minutes and I have left it for 4 hours once. I put it into safe mode and booted in fine, did a virus scan, and it was removed. i gave up a few times and even called MS.

Copy the .inf file out of the directory, and then delete the original from windows\inf . I'd say it was heat, but it would be at different times as the installations progressed. If these things are true, then you could try a different CD drive in the machine, and/or a different hard drive in an attempt to rule out bad components. black scrreen.
